Do You Have Anything Interesting to Say?

The hardest part of my job when I'm training businesses is to get them to take action.

Most people simply want to get more visitor traffic and be higher up in the search engines like Google. To this end, there's basically 3 things that Google likes from a website :

  • Great Content - preferably niche.
  • Regularly updated content.
  • Lots of inbound links.

The key word here is content.

But what do most people do? They have a website that either "sells stuff" or tells the world how great they are. But no real content that people would be interested in.

And as far as getting inbound links are concerned, why would other people want to link to a glorified advert?

The sites that do really well are the ones where the owner recognises that a website - like a garden - needs regular investment of time.

In this case, I'm talking about having regular content added to the site. Usefully, this content can also be emailed out to your email list and syndicated with article websites as well or added to your portfolio of microsites, for the same overhead. Leverage!

The expression "Content is King" isn't said without good reason.

Try and think of your website as an information portal - rather than an advert!

If your website was like a miniature version of Wikipedia in whatever business you're in, you will generate a LOT more visitor traffic, simple as that.

Lot's of niches, lots of little information portals. Each the "expert" in it's own field.

Doesn't this all take time? Yes- of course. But you can outsource it! Same as you can pay a gardener to have a stunning garden, you can outsource your content creation to people that specialise in it.

It isn't a get-rich-quick formula.

It's involves playing a longer game. However, investing into your internet marketing by continually adding content to your blogs, microsites, main website and syndicating with article directories means that over time you will be slowly and surely building up your traffic, Google Pagerank and visitor loyalty.

The articles don't "go away" - they're there for ever - it's an investment, unlike pay per click which stops working as soon as you stop paying.

But it's not just visitor traffic. People are MUCH more likely to either buy from or contact via a company website that has loads of useful, interesting content than one that is basically an advert with a load of products or services advertised on it.

It also means they'll come back again and/or recommend it to colleagues.

Having a website full of great content that's constantly being expanded grows your traffic exponentially as a result of the several factors mentioned above.

And of course, outsourcing it means it actually gets done, rather than being put off or started and then petering out - which is the same thing as not doing it.

Benefits of article writing.

  • Continually increasing Visitor Traffic.
  • Boosted Credibility & therefore increased conversion rate
  • Increased inbound links
  • Enhanced Visitor Loyalty & More visitor referrals
  • Leverage to add to your email auto-responder series
  • Can be syndicated(think backlinks) to be added to other websites (e.g. article directories)
  • Articles help to educate and pre-qualify your customers.
  • Can be used as part of a keyword targetted search marketing campaign.

Some Maths.

Let's say that conservatively, each article generates an additional 5 visits per month from the search engines and that each click would cost £1 per click via cost-per-click on Google.

That's £5 x 12 - £60 per year. Over a standard return time of 5 years, that's £300 worth of traffic. And of course, that's not to mention increased conversion, more inbound links, extra loyalty etc etc.

The Investment.
